Bagels

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast

  • 4-1/2 teaspoons Sugar

  • 1 cup Hot Water

  • 3-1/2 cups Flour

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Salt

Everything Bagel Seasoning

  • 2 teaspoons Sesame Seeds

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Onion Powder

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Garlic Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Salt

  • 1/2 teaspoons Poppy Seeds

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine water, sugar, and yeast and let proof for a few minutes

  2. In stand mixer, combine flour, salt, and yeast mixture

  3. Kneed for about 10 minutes at a speed of 6

    1. Add more water or flour as needed

    2. The dough should be firm, smooth, and elastic

  4. Let rest one hour in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel

  5. Once the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and let rest another 10 minutes

  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces

  7. Roll each piece into a dough ball

  8. Poke a hole in the middle of each ball and stretch out gently so that they start to look like bagels

  9. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and preheat over to 425F

  10. Boil each bagel 1.5 minutes on each side (total of 3 minutes)

  11. Place bagels on baking sheet and sprinkle with topping

  12. Bake for 25 minutes

  13. Eat!
